Pop in for a delicious home-cooked lunch and a pint at The Royal Oak, one of Caterham’s oldest pubs. For over 100 years people have been dropping into The Royal Oak pub on the High Street, Caterham-onthe- Hill for a pint and break from their working day. In an old photo on display inside the pub you can even see the wooden pole outside where regulars tethered their horses! The pole is long gone now of course but the traditional atmosphere in the pub remains.A modern extension at the back of the pub accommodates the café which serves home-cooked food from 7.30am-2pm weekdays and 8.30am-2pm on Saturdays, at very reasonable prices. Landlord, Alan Lander, says that the pub prides itself on the quality of its beers and lagers. He said: "We are owned by Enterprise Inns which means we can serve a bigger range of beers and lagers. For example you would not normally expect to see both Carling and Fosters available under the same roof.
